Passing first time isn't about luck. It comes down to consistent habits built over your lessons. These are the things we focus on with every pupil.
Before the test
- 1Take a mock test in real test conditions so nothing on the day feels new.
- 2Learn the routes around your test centre — the junctions, roundabouts and speed limit changes.
- 3Get a good night's sleep and eat before your test. It sounds obvious, but it matters.
- 4Book a lesson straight before the test to warm up.
During the test
- 1Check your mirrors early and often — especially before signalling, changing speed or direction.
- 2Keep to the speed limit, but don't be overly cautious. Driving too slowly can be marked as a fault.
- 3If you're unsure what the examiner said, ask them to repeat it. That's completely allowed.
- 4Made a mistake? Let it go. One minor fault won't fail you — dwelling on it can.
- 5Commit to your decisions at junctions. Hesitation causes more faults than you'd think.
- 6Use the full time you're given for manoeuvres. Slow and controlled always wins.
